Community Outreach

Amyx is committed to giving back to the communities in which our employees work and live through contributions of time, financial and mentoring support.

2010

Amyx Capitol Area employees reached out to local service people who are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.  As a part of our annual summer picnic, we packed and sent 36 boxes of food, toiletries and miscellaneous items to service people serving overseas.  Amyx families donated items to fill the boxes and Amyx donated items as well as the postage to get the boxes into the hands of the soldiers.

Amyx families were wonderfully generous in donating batteries, granola bars, coffee, tea, non-dairy creamers, sweeteners, beef and turkey jerky, protein bars, easy mac, cookies, candy, crackers, gum, mints, peanut butter, pop tarts, drink mixes, ramen noodles, slim jims, trail mix, tuna, popcorn, rice krispie treats, instant oatmeal, deodorant, powder, lotions, mouthwash, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, wet wipes,  feminine items, soccer balls and footballs.  No two boxes were alike and all were jam packed with not only all these goodies but also with notes from Amyx employees and families thanking the war fighters for their service and wishing for their safe and quick return.  We had the names of the planned recipients of the packages, so were able to personalize the items and the notes.  Some of the packages even included art work provided by some of the younger Amyx family members!  Amyx then brought the boxes to the post office to be delivered to the troops.  The post office tells us that the troops will receive them within the week, so they should be enjoying them very soon.

Amyx did this project in partnership with the Neighbors Foundation, a local not-for-profit corporation who support the troops as well as numerous other organizations.  We’ll be thinking of soldiers opening goody boxes and sharing a game of soccer or some bubble gum with their buddies.

 2009

This December as part of our Gift of Giving for the Holidays, employees brought new unwrapped toys and clothing to our employee appreciation event which gave us a wonderful opportunity to lend a helping hand to families in the area by helping to stock the gift store at New Hope Housing where residents can shop free of charge for their families to make the holidays a little brighter.  The Amyx giving spirit continued in Battle Creek where employees adopted families as part of the Salvation Army Adopt a Family Program and again in St Louis as employees supported military families at Scott Air Force Base.

During Thanksgiving week Amyx delivered over 400 pounds of turkey, hams and non-perishable goods to local DC and Northern Virginia organizations. These donations were delivered to So Others Might Eat (SOME), DC Central Kitchen and the Eleanor Kennedy Shelter.  This gift of sharing and giving back to our local communities happened as well in Battle Creek. MI as our local staff delivered turkeys and hams to Inasmuch House (part of the Haven of Rest organization) and the S.A.F.E. House.  And staying with our tradition of giving, St Louis will be reaching out to support a holiday food drive in their area in December.

Amyx employees volunteered for a great cause - the Eighth Annual Community and “Healthcare on Wheels” Health Fair.  A day of information sharing, signing-up eligible families, health care screenings and answering questions in support of the residents in Southeast and Southwest Washington.

A big THANK YOU to our Northern Virginia employees who volunteered their time on Saturday, April 25th with Rebuilding Together Alexandria at Community Lodgings, a transitional facility whose mission is to lift disadvantaged families from homeless and instability to independence and self-sufficiency through their transitional and affordable housing programs. Thanks to all our volunteers who worked hard and made a difference!

Another big THANK YOU goes out to our St Louis, MO employees who volunteered their time on Saturday, July 18th with Habitat for Humanity. Our team worked all day putting up sliding on a house for a family with 5 kids - a great way to spend the day and make a difference. Thanks to all our volunteers!
